Series: Luis Palau | Transformation by the Power of the Gospel

This week on “Reaching Your World with Luis Palau,” you will hear how lives can be radically transformed by the Gospel. You will be challenged and encouraged to not only pray for the lost, but to give them hope.

An Open Door Friday, April 5, 2019

I have friends in Ethiopia who make a difference in the lives of many children. When visiting recently, I had the opportunity to serve with them. We drove downtown to a bus stop. People mingled as they waited for their bus or taxi. It looked pretty normal to me. But only a few blocks away, off the beaten path, they pointed out 15 to 20 children huddled around a small fire. My friends have been hanging out with those kids for a long time. And, they are making a difference. In fact, two of the people with us used to hang out around that very fire, living on the streets.  But now, one is a doctor and another is working on getting his PhD. My friends played a part in their success. They believed in them. They spent time with them. They loved them. And, most importantly, they told them about Jesus Christ.

Revelation says that God gives us open doors. Those kids in Ethiopia are an open door - one my friends are walking through day after day. It was a privilege to hang out with those children. But, I’m grateful they have people investing in them on a regular basis. People who have been there.

Has God given you an open door? Whom do you see on a regular basis? Maybe it isn’t children around a campfire, but it might be someone on your bus route, or in a class at school, or a co-worker… There are open doors for all of us to build relationships and tell of Jesus Christ. The question is, will you walk through that door?

Clarity in the Midst of Confusion Thursday, April 4, 2019

During my travels I often hear the phrase, “What a world we live in!”  With economic turmoil and political unrest unfolding in many countries, we all hear of or feel the effects.  There is fear. There is confusion.  Mostly there is a feeling of helplessness and foreboding.

I received a letter once that reminded me of just how to respond to these helpless situations.  A woman wrote me saying, “Mr. Palau, your message rings clear in the midst of so much confusion in our world.  God really is achieving His purpose in the world.  He is the Ruler!  What blessings your words have brought at just the perfect time.”

The message the woman was referring to was from Jeremiah 29:11. It says “‘I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’”

We all need to remember that God is with us, especially when our world is in disarray. That reminder we must repeat in conversations again and again. Share this message of hope as you reach out to your world. God is sovereign.  He’s the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. And the hearts of kings are in His hands.  Trust Him and encourage others around you.

Celebrate Recovery Wednesday, April 3, 2019

I read a story about a man named Scott.  He was celebrating five years of sobriety.  Scott explained how in his darkest moment, an old friend returned to his life.  This friend shared how he had surrendered his life to Christ. Scott put his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ himself, entered a treatment program and is now free from his addictions - for five years!

Years later Scott is now working with others who are struggling with addiction. He recently returned to his old friend to thank him.  “When you shared your faith with me we became brothers.  Now I share my faith and thank God for your words of love to me.”

Whether you have been through an addiction or not, you may know someone who is struggling.  I encourage you to pray for them.  Pray that God will bring people into their lives who can share a testimony of recovery.

“If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation.  The old is gone, the new has come.”  And that’s what a person with addictions needs desperately:  to know that if they receive Jesus Christ, not only are their sins forgiven, not only are they going to heaven, but they’re going to be liberated from their addictions and be free, free, free through Jesus Christ. So share your faith.  You may bless them forever.

Comfort in Uncertainty Tuesday, April 2, 2019

I met a woman named Cheryl recently. She told me she was sick, struggled with finances and had two young girls.  Fear and uncertainty about their future was Cheryl’s biggest problem. Yet in the midst of this, Cheryl’s friend Sara told her about Jesus Christ. Sara told of her struggles through depression and how Jesus sustained her. Sara’s story made a difference in Cheryl’s life.  Now, Cheryl’s fear doesn’t have the same sting – she put her faith in God and her children in His hands.

Cheryl didn’t know what the future would hold.  But, thanks to her friend’s own story, she came to understand that God was in control.  Proverbs 3:5 and 6 say, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”  Cheryl did just that and had this to say to her friend: “Thank you, thank you for sharing God’s goodness with me – this faith sustains.”

Do you have a friend or family member who is struggling with the unknown?  Are they fearful?  Tell them of a time when you put your faith in God our Father.  Your experience may be just what your friend or family member needs to hear right now.

World-wide Impact Monday, April 1, 2019

Phil moved to Colombia with his family as a missionary to work with orphans. Phil said, “I’m challenged to do this work because of my friend.  He told me about the Good News and God working in his life, many years ago.  For this I am thankful. Because of this, I serve the Lord in Colombia.”

Phil’s life was changed because one friend shared his testimony.  Now, many lives are being affected as a result.  Matthew 28:19, the Great Commission, says “… go and make disciples of all nations….”  What a great challenge we have all been given!  As Phil experienced, this effort can start with a close friend and have world-reaching impact.

This week, I challenge you to be like Phil’s friend. Look for opportunities to share your story. Have your closest friends ever heard the full story of how you met Jesus? Share with them. Give them details.  Tell them what God has done for you throughout all these years.

Ask God to work through you as you do your part to fulfill the Great Commission.
