Series: Luis Palau | Tools to Share the Good News

The Bible tells us to share the Good News, but sometimes, actually following through can be tough. This week on “Reaching Your World with Luis Palau” Luis points out some of the tools we have to share the Good News.

Hospitality Friday, July 13, 2018

The Levys’ hospitality spoke more than their words.  In 1993 I was 27 years old and far from the Lord. Dad invited me to one of his festivals in Jamaica and I said I’d go. Landing in Kingston, I was met by a wonderful couple – Robert and Judy Levy. I was immediately impressed by them. They were incredibly generous, hospitable and loving.

Mr. Levy was a successful businessman who was esteemed across the country, yet exuded an unusual humility and tenderness. His children were like him, exuberant and passionate for life, family, and God. That visit to Jamaica changed me. It was there that I gave my life to Jesus. And much of the credit goes to the joy of the Levy family. Their lives, words, and actions spoke powerfully to me. I knew there was something more hopeful to go for in life than the life I lived, because I saw it in them.

Friend, simply living out your faith joyfully may lead another to Jesus. The Bible says to “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” I saw hope in the Levys – true hope and true life. In them, I saw a personal relationship with Jesus Christ lived out. And so I challenge you, live fully and you will show others the truth of Jesus Christ.

Your Children Thursday, July 12, 2018

When my kids were young, I mentioned a gift I had purchased for my wife, Pat’s, birthday, to my son Andrew. Before I knew it, Andrew had told my wife about the gift. I laugh when I think of these scenarios; kids, in their innocence, just tell everything. And while it can be frustrating when they reveal a gift idea, this quality makes them great evangelists. After all, evangelists are people who tell the Good News. The Good News of God the Father and of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As a parent, you can cultivate this love of sharing by teaching your kids about evangelism. By showing them how they can share their faith effectively, you will encourage their spirit and bring glory to God. Before a child shares the Good News with his or her friend, you must be sure they understand it themselves. Praying with them, talking about Jesus, and making sure they’re involved in a youth group are some ways to help them understand the Good News. The Bible says in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to me (said Jesus) and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of Heaven.” This week, encourage your kids in Christ.

Your Profession Wednesday, July 11, 2018

If you know anything about basketball, you know Steph Curry. He’s the all-star point guard for the Golden State Warriors. After all, Curry is becoming the most popular player in the game! Aside from his basketball skills and his great 3-point shot, what sets Steph Curry apart from other players is his outspoken faith in Jesus Christ. I read about it the other day. Curry said, “I know why I play the game, and it’s not to score 30 points a night, but it’s to use the stage I’m on. I’ve been put here for a specific purpose: to be a witness and to share my testimony as I go through it.” Wow! Think of all the kids that idolize Steph Curry. Think of how many are being pointed towards Jesus because Steph is using his profession as a platform for Christ.

You may be saying, “Luis, we aren’t all superstar NBA players” and you’re right! But we can all use our daily work as a way to point others to Christ. We can do this by working with integrity, having a servant’s heart, and most importantly, by sharing our faith when the time is right. The Bible says in Colossians 4:5-6, “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”

Your Kindness Tuesday, July 10, 2018

A friend of mine, named Jordan, is exceptionally kind. He’s the type of person who makes everyone feel valued. Whether he’s at a restaurant, or a board meeting, or getting gas at the service station, he never fails to ask someone “how is your day going?” or “how are you doing?” This authentic kindness has prompted people to wonder what’s different about Jordan or why is he always so nice? It seems like such a small thing, but his kindness has opened the door to many conversations about Jesus. Jordan tells us that when people are softened by his kindness, they’re often more open to hearing the Good News of all good news in the world – the good news about Jesus Christ.

The Bible says in Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” So this week, practice being kind. When someone frustrates you, be quick to show grace. When you see a stranger having a tough day, greet them with a smile and a “hello”. In a world with so much darkness, be a genuine light. And as you live this way, expect God to open doors for conversation about Christ. Yes, expect God to do that!

Your Home Monday, July 9, 2018

We admire Christian missionaries who go to far away places to share the Good News. I do.  They are my heroes. But for you, the best place to start sharing the Gospel might be in your own neighborhood. The reason is, over the years, we develop relationships with our neighbors.

My wife, Pat, and I, have watched our neighbors’ families grow up, and our neighbors have seen my family grow. Being so close to neighbors allows us to demonstrate Christ in our behavior, but it’s crucial that we follow up our behavior with real conversations about Jesus. Some ideas for reaching your neighborhood might include hosting a neighborhood block party (we do that in our neighborhood), distributing homemade gifts to neighbors at Christmas time with a card that points to Christ. Sending a birthday card or gift, or simply inviting neighbors over for dinner and having intentional conversation about Jesus.

The Bible says in John 13:34, “A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so also you must love one another.” Let’s show love to our neighbors by opening the door for a conversation about Jesus.

Reaching Your World: Next Week

God in the Ordinary

This week on “Reaching Your World with Luis Palau,” Luis opens our eyes so we can see God clearly in the everyday, often chaotic, parts of life. As you listen, you’ll be refreshed by the realization that Jesus is present every moment; He’s not only at church on Sunday.
